The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, has disbursed N1.6 billion to 727 families of deceased police officers as part of the insurance claims covering the years 2018/2019, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023 under the Group Life Assurance Policy of the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Egbetokun stated that this act serves to express the Nigeria Police’s gratitude to its fallen heroes and is the fifth such presentation since his appointment in 2023.
He emphasized the current police leadership’s steadfast commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families, including those who have passed away while on active duty, and reassured serving officers that they would not be forsaken by the nation or the force.
He detailed the distribution of cheques across five categories, showcasing the force’s varied commitment to the beneficiaries:
– The first category includes cheques totaling N55.8 million for 311 beneficiaries, which is the remaining 5% balance of the Group Life Assurance Policy payments for Batches 9 and 10 of the 2021/2022 insurance year.
– The second category consists of cheques amounting to N761.5 million for 178 beneficiaries, representing 90% of the Group Life Assurance policy payments for Batches 15 and 17 of the 2021/2022 insurance year.
The third category is a cheque for N567.5 million covering 78 beneficiaries, equating to 100% of the Group Life Assurance policy payment for Batch 9 of the 2022/2023 insurance year.
– The fourth category includes cheques worth N96.9 million for 86 beneficiaries, representing 32% of the Group Life Assurance policy payment for Batch 5 of the 2018/2019 insurance year.
The final category is a cheque for N113.2 million, representing full payment for 149 beneficiaries covering Batches 6 and 7 of the 2022/2023 policy year.
With this latest initiative, the force continues its support for the families of officers who have served the nation.
