Lagos State Police have seized several bags of a substance believed to be Indian Hemp at a jetty in the Ojo area of Lagos, resulting in one arrest.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, verified the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.
According to Hundeyin, the tactical squad from Ijanikin intercepted the substances early Wednesday morning during a patrol in the Ajangbadi area.
The team followed a white Mercedes Benz mini truck to the Ilufe Waterside Jetty at Alaba International, Ojo.
The officers found a significant amount of a substance suspected to be Indian Hemp in sacks being unloaded from a flying boat.
A 43-year-old suspect, believed to be the truck’s driver, was apprehended. In total, 1,040 wraps of the suspected Indian Hemp were recovered in 30 sacks.
“The suspect alleged that one man, simply identified as Ifeanyi, contacted him to convey the substances from Waterside Jetty to Alaba International Market, Ojo, in Lagos.
“Investigation is ongoing, and effort is on to track and arrest the said Ifeanyi,” he said.
