The Borno police have confirmed the arrest of eight suspects linked to the alleged murder of Dr. Kamar Abdulkadir, a lecturer in the Department of Physical Health Education at the University of Maiduguri.
Dr. Abdulkadir was killed in his campus office on Sunday by unidentified assailants who entered his office stealthily. He was discovered on Monday, bearing multiple injuries inflicted by his assailant.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, informed the press that the attackers also stole the lecturer’s vehicle, phone, and laptop.
“We reviewed the CCTV footage and observed them leaving the university in the deceased’s vehicle. However, due to the poor quality of the video, we couldn’t determine how many people were in the car,” he stated.
He mentioned that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In response, Prof. Danjuma Gambo, the Director of Radio and Public Relations, speaking for the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Shugaba, noted that the police and other security agencies have commenced an investigation to uncover the details of the death.
“Given the serious nature of the incident, the university management urges all staff and students to stay calm and continue with their regular, lawful activities, as the university is actively collaborating with the appropriate security agencies to resolve the matter,” he advised.
Management wishes to reassure parents, guardians, and other stakeholders that the University campus continues to be a safe and secure environment for teaching, learning, and community service.
