Atotal of 307 suspects have been arrested by the tactical teams personally led by the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh.
The raids on Sunday, February 11, 2024, took place under the newly launched Operation Velvet.
FCT Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh in a statement on Monday said the raid marked a black spot at Gidan Dambe in the Dei-Dei – Zuba axis.
“During the search, one English Pistol with fifteen (15) rounds of 9mm ammunition was recovered from one Ibrahim Tukur who claimed to be a DSS personnel.
“Other exhibits such as motorcycles, wraps of marijuana, illicit substances and valuables reasonably suspected to have been stolen from innocent residents were equally recovered,” the statement said.
The FCT police added that while suspects are still undergoing screening, the FCT Commissioner of Police FCT wishes to inform the members of the public of Operation Velvet, which was launched on Friday, February 10.
The statement further stressed that the team comprised all the Tactical teams of the Command with the mandate to curb all forms of vehicular criminality and other crimes in the FCT.
“The Commissioner of Police further cautions officers against extortion of residents and to adopt professionalism in the discharge of their lawful duties, as security of the populace remains his utmost priority,” the police spokesman said.
