Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has reiterated the need for substantial investment in health and education sectors, as he donated N10 million to the Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State. The donation was made during his visit to the institution on Monday, July 8, 2024.
Obi highlighted that Nigeria’s underdevelopment stems from a lack of aggressive investment in critical areas such as health, education, and poverty alleviation.
He stressed that these sectors are vital for addressing the nation’s pressing issues, including insecurity and socio-economic challenges.
“I have not only remained consistent in urging governments, at all levels, to invest more in health and education, but I have also continued to call on donor agencies to do the same. Our investment in the future of our children is for the good of society and the progress of our nation,” Obi stated.
Addressing the nursing students, Obi emphasized the importance of their profession in caring for humanity. He expressed concern over the training of more nurses, noting the critical role they play in the health sector. With warnings of a severe shortage of nurses, Obi urged proactive investment in their training to meet domestic needs and potentially export skilled professionals to the global community.
Obi also extended his gratitude to the Proprietor of the College, Bishop Anthony Ademu Adaji, as well as the management and staff, for their dedication to training compassionate and competent healthcare professionals.
