Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has launched an electric bike initiative, marking the second phase of the Ogun E-Mobility program. This new phase includes the introduction of battery swap stations in Abeokuta.
The primary objectives are to reduce public transportation costs and promote environmental sustainability. However, concerns have been voiced regarding the condition of roads and the consistent availability of electricity needed to charge the bikes. Critics argue that improving road infrastructure should precede the implementation of such a program.
The launch event featured notable attendees, including the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Ahmed Alkali, and representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd.
This initiative, focusing on fully electric bikes, is part of Ogun State’s strategy to address the challenges posed by subsidy removal and rising diesel prices.
