Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, expressed concern over the alleged fraud and irregularities that plagued Nigeria’s last general elections.
In a series of posts on his social media page, he highlighted issues such as low voter turnout, delayed polling station openings, and the absence of diaspora voting.
Obi lamented the discrepancies between Nigeria’s electoral process and that of South Africa, where a recent election was described as transparent and seamless. He praised South Africa’s high voter turnout, punctual polling station openings, and real-time dissemination of results without technical glitches.
In contrast, Obi criticized Nigeria’s electoral system, describing it as a “show of shame” due to the alleged irregularities and challenges faced during the 2023 elections. He called for urgent and comprehensive electoral reforms to restore the people’s faith in Nigeria’s democracy.
The former Anambra State governor emphasized the need for transparency, efficiency, and technological advancement in Nigeria’s electoral processes to ensure free and fair elections in the future.
