The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has demanded the immediate payment of the withheld salaries for the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
Mr. Joe Ajaero, the NLC President, urged the Federal Government to pay the outstanding salaries promptly to prevent any disruptions in the academic sector.
The situation arose from a circular issued by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU and SSANU, which called for a seven-day warning strike starting from March 18th due to non-payment of salaries.
While the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) received their withheld salaries in full, NASU and SSANU members allegedly did not.

Ajaero emphasized that there was no valid reason for withholding these salaries, and subjecting union members to discriminatory treatment defied logic.
He warned that the impact of the strike would be unacceptably high, particularly for students and parents.
The NLC President urged the government to expeditiously settle the outstanding salaries and not underestimate the maturity of these unions123.
