The recently held Para-Sports Games in Abuja saw the FCT para-soccer team emerge victorious against their Plateau counterparts in a thrilling quarterfinal match.
The game was played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, and witnessed the FCT team take control of the game in the 35th minute when Mohammed Abba scored a brilliant free-kick.
The Plateau team, however, continued to fight back but were unable to penetrate the tight FCT defence.
On resumption, the FCT team continued from where they left off, dominating the game.
Abdullahi Garba doubled their lead in the 59th minute, putting the FCT team in firm control of the game.
Speaking after the match, the FCT coach, Umar Jimba, expressed his happiness over his team’s performance, especially since it was their first appearance in the Para-Sports Games in Abuja.
He commended the players and the coaching crew for their hard work, which saw them beat Kwara 5-0 in the previous match, thus advancing them to the quarterfinal.
He also thanked the fans for their support and urged them to sustain it.
In another quarterfinal match, Kaduna defeated Bauchi 6-2 to qualify for the semifinals.
A total of nine states participated in the Para-soccer competition, including Kwara, Lagos, FCT Abuja, Bauchi, Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Plateau.
CRUX NEWS reports that the Para-Sports Games featured 15 sporting events, including Amputee football, N shooting, sitting Volleyball, para table tennis, para-swimming, wheelchair basketball, para taekwondo, and wheelchair tennis.
Other events included para-badminton, powerlifting, deaf sport, para-athletics, para soccer, para karate, and para canoeing.
