Following consensus reached members, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, announced the principal officers of the 10th Senate.
The new officers are Senator Opeyemi Bamidele from Ekiti State as Senate Leader, Senator Dave Umahi from Ebonyi State as Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume from Borno State as Chief Whip, and Senator Lola Ashiru from Kwara State as Deputy Chief Whip.
Similarly, Akpabio announced the names of minority principal officers.
They are Senator Simon Davou, Plateau North – PDP, Minority Leader; Oyewunmi Olarere, Osun West – PDP as Deputy Minority Leader; Darlington Nwokeocha, Abia Central – LP as Minority Whip while Senator Rufai Hanga – Kano Central – NNPP emerged the Deputy Minority Whip.
The 59-year-old Senator Bamidele, a lawyer who is popularly known as MOB, was born 29 July 1963. He was prominent as a human right activist, politician and member of the 7th, 8th and 9th National Assembly consecutively representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District.
He is a Fellow of the Chattered Institute of Arbitrators (Nigeria), and in October 2022, he was honoured with the Commander Of The Order Of The Niger (CON) by immediate former President Muhammadu Buhari.
