The Organisers of the Sunshine State Marathon (S.S.M 1.0) tournament have announced that the first edition of the Sunshine Marathon event will offer a grand prize of N1 million to the winning athlete.
The tournament, which is set to take place on October 27th, will be held in Akure, Ondo state.
In a statement released on Thursday in Akure, Benjamin Oladele, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, revealed that the marathon event will be a 15km race that will commence at the Airport junction in Oba ile Akure and conclude at the Ondo State Sports Complex.
The accreditation process is set to begin on October 26th, and according to Oladele, the winner of the marathon will take home N1 million, while the second and third-place runners will receive N500,000 and N200,000, 000 respectively.

The tournament is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and the registration fee for participants is N10,000 on the designated website; www.ondomarathon.com.ng.
Oladele also mentioned that the committee has made the necessary security arrangements to ensure a hitch-free tournament.
He emphasized that the event is open to athletes from all over the country, and it aims to promote health and wellness by encouraging individuals to live healthier lifestyles through physical activity.
“We want to promote fitness and healthy living among individuals and attract athletes and sports enthusiasts from all over Ondo state to showcase their skills. Furthermore, we believe that the tournament can boost tourism in Ondo state by showcasing its beauty and cultural heritage,” he said.
