Nigerian football legend Sunday Oliseh has reignited the fire of his coaching ambitions, expressing his desire to return and lead the Super Eagles towards qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This news comes on the heels of Nigeria’s crushing disappointment of missing the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Argentina emerged victorious.
Oliseh, a former midfield maestro for both Juventus and Ajax, isn’t shying away from the challenge.
His offer arrives at a critical juncture for the Nigerian national team, currently grappling with qualification struggles and the recent resignation of coach Finidi George.
Finidi, who took the reins from Jose Peseiro in March, stepped down after a mere month in charge due to a string of disheartening results in the qualifiers.
These results included a frustrating draw against South Africa and a shocking upset at the hands of the Benin Republic, throwing Nigeria’s World Cup qualification campaign into serious jeopardy.

In a recent interview with Elegbete TV, Oliseh made his intentions clear:
“I have one country. Forget that I have German pali. Nothing brings me more joy than my people. If my country wants to speak with me, I will answer. I can also provide technical assistance because we need to qualify for the World Cup.”
Oliseh’s declaration comes eight years after his own tumultuous resignation as Super Eagles coach, citing contract breaches and unpaid wages.
Since then, he has gained managerial experience at Dutch club Fortuna Sittard and German side SV 19 Straelen.
However, it appears the fire for leading his national team burns brightly once more.
Oliseh seems determined to return and guide the Super Eagles back to the world’s biggest football stage.
