The Class of ’73 from Iroko Community Grammar School, Ibadan, recently commemorated the 50th anniversary of their passing out of the school by donating sports equipment worth N500,000 to their alma mater.
The equipment included table tennis courts, tennis balls, badminton items, and a basketball pitch, among others.
The National President of the Old Students’ Association, Prof. Akin Alao, on behalf of the alumni, stated that the donation was motivated by the need for students to develop their skills.
He added that the school has been producing excellent grades due to the foundation laid by the founding fathers and that many of the old students were spread all over the world.
Mr James Oyedokun, the Head Boy for the ’73 set, urged the students to stay away from internet fraud and not to trade the certainty of life for uncertainty.
He emphasized the importance of punctuality and urged the students to do things at the appropriate time in order not to miss out on opportunities in life.

The facilitator of the programme, Mr Olu Abiala, a former Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State wing, encouraged the students to excel in both academics and sports.
He provided the sports equipment to enable the students to unleash their potentials and excel in sports.
Abiala also highlighted that sports activities are unisex and some of the students could become experts in the field and even study Physical Education up to PhD level.
The Principal of the school, Mrs Funmilola Olu-Daniels, received the equipment from the old students and appreciated the efforts of the association for their kind gestures and love for their alma mater.
She thanked the old students for their continued support and love for the school.
Master Lawal Farouk, the school’s Head Boy, expressed his appreciation to the old students for their support and hoped for more assistance in the future.
With a student’s population of more than 1,100, the donation of sports equipment by the ’73 set will surely go a long way in developing the skills of students and enabling them to excel in sports.
