The Ogun State Government, via the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, has suspended a teacher at Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-Emi, following allegations that the teacher’s punishment of Master Monday Arijo, an SS2 student, led to the student’s untimely death. The incident occurred on Friday, prompting swift action, including the teacher’s immediate arrest.
Additionally, the school’s principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, has been issued a formal query for permitting corporal punishment in defiance of state regulations, with 24 hours to explain her actions. Disciplinary actions are expected should her response fail to justify her decisions.

In a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, condolences were extended to Arijo’s family, describing him as an exceptional student whose absence will be felt by his peers and the school community.
The letter also promised that the government would pursue justice and prayed for the family’s strength to endure the tragic loss.
