The Technical Director of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Martin Melandi, has emphasized the need for more private-sector partnerships to expedite the growth and development of volleyball in the country.
On Monday in Abuja, Melandi reiterated the board’s commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to nurture the sport across Nigeria.
Despite the ambitious programmes of the federation, the lack of funds and insufficient sponsorship still pose significant challenges to the development of volleyball in the country.
Melandi expressed gratitude to the NVBF President, Musa Nimrod, and other board members for their relentless efforts in ensuring that the game stays afloat despite the financial constraints.
He also revealed that the ongoing second phase of the 2023 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League would provide a platform for more talents to emerge and elevate the standard of the local league.
According to him, this is one of the most exciting times for volleyball enthusiasts, as the most thrilling team will emerge as the champions of the league.

The Technical Director acknowledged the difficulties encountered in their quest to ensure the proper development of volleyball in Nigeria.
Nevertheless, he assured the public that the Federation was working assiduously to ensure that all leagues were adequately developed.
He added that the premier league divisions one and two, including beach volleyball, are entirely stable with various competitions at the zonal, national, continental, and global levels.
Furthermore, he disclosed that the league champion (male and female) would qualify to represent Nigeria at the 2024 African Club Championships.
The tournament’s second phase, which began on November 17th, has seen the participation of 17 teams, comprising eight male and nine female teams.
The tournament is set to end on November 25th at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
