On this day in 2002, following a “blasphemous” article by “This day” newspaper about the Miss World beauty pageant, a violent clash erupted between muslims and christians in Kaduna. No fewer than 250 lives were lost in the clash.
2. U.S. President John F. Kennedy Assassinated
On this day in 1963, the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas.
Kennedy became the fourth US president killed in office.
3. Nelson Mandela And Others Were Prosecuted
On this day in 1958, Nelson Mandela and others were re-indicted by the South African government prosecutors with charges of conspiracy to endanger the state after failure to prove treason charges against them.
4. Portugal Plot To Overthrow Guinea’s President Sékou Touré
On this day in 1970, Portugal begins a failed attack to topple Guinea’s president, Sékou Touré as a result of his support for the emancipation of Portuguese colonies of Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau.
5. Landslides In Hpakant, Kachin State, Northern Myanmar
On this day in 2015, a landslide occured at a jade mine in Hpakant, Kachin State in Northern Myanmar. About 113 people were killed in the mishap and over 100 people were reported missing.
