1. Birth Of Nnamdi Azikiwe
On this day in 1904, Nigeria Statesman and political leader, Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe was born.
2. Birth of Chinua Achebe
On this day in 1930, Nigeria novelist and poet Chinua Achebe was born. He authored the most widely read, translated and studied novel, ‘Things Fall Apart. He is regarded as “Father of African Literature” in the west.
3. Nnamdi Azikiwe Became Governor-General
On this day in 1960, Nnamdi Azikiwe became governor-general, and became the first Nigerian named to the Privy Council of the United Kingdom.
4. Benazir Bhutto Became Pakistan’s Prime Minister
On this day in 1988, Benazir Bhutto was elected as Pakistan’s Prime Minister. She became the first woman in modern history to lead a Muslim Country. She served as Prime Minister from 1988 to 1990 and also from 1993 to 1996.
5. UNESCO Was Founded
On this day in 1945, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was established.

On this day in 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt issued Presidential Proclamation 780 admitting Oklahoma as the forty-sixth state.
