1. Nigeria Army General And Others Killed In Attack Against Insurgents
On this day in 2021, the Nigerian Army troops encountered the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants in Borno state’s Askira Uba local government area, where fierce battle ensued and the eventual death of an Army General and three other Soldiers.
2. Mozambique Is Accepted As a Member Of Commonwealth

3. Armero Tragedy
On this day in 1985, following an earlier detection of volcanic activity, Nevado del Ruiz stratovolcano erupted in Tolima, Colombia. The volcanic eruption engulfed the town of Armero, killing more than 20,000 of its almost 29,000 inhabitants.
This was the second-deadliest volcanic disaster of the 20th century, surpassed only by the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée, and is the fourth-deadliest volcanic event recorded since 1500.
4. Terrorist Attacks In Paris
On this day in 2015, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or Daesh (ISIL), coordinated militant attacks in Paris, France, and the city’s northern suburb, Saint-Denis.
No fewer than 130 people were killed , 460 injured and 100 left severely affected, seven of the attackers also died. The attacks were the deadliest attack in France, since the 1961 Paris massacre and also the deadliest in the European Union since the Madrid train bombings of 2004.
5. Northern Alliance Captured City of Kabul
On this day in 2001, following the September 11 terrorist attack in the United States (U.S.), the U.S. led an invasion to topple the Talibans and Al-Qaeda, with the cooperation of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan, the city of Kabul was captured.
