Historians relied on physical evidences to corroborate their accounts. These included, photographs, diaries or literary accounts.
Historians would painstakingly examine evidence, trace them to specific persons or places to ensure relative certainty.
Although history might have distorted information, however the effort historians make to ensure history is holistically preserved with regards to authenticity can not be overemphasized.

1. Nigeria Was Suspended From Commonwealth
On this day in 1995,Nigeria was suspended from commonwealth. In the aftermath of execution of the Ogoni Nine on November 10, the international community in condemnation of the action moved for the suspension of Nigeria from the Commonwealth Assembly.
2. Rhodesia Declares Its Independence
On this day in 1965, Rhodesia, a region in South-Central Africa, now divided into Zimbabwe and Zambia gained independence from the British. Rhodesia existed as a self-declaring independent country without international recognition for 14 years.

On this day in 1975, Angola gained its independence from the Portuguese. Angola fought for over 13 years to achieve their independence.
