During a special event at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, Novak Djokovic and Gareth Bale showcased their impressive golfing skills in the Ryder Cup celebrity all-star match.
The event took place ahead of the biennial contest between Europe and USA and saw Team Monty secure a well-deserved 7-4 victory over Team Pavin.
Djokovic, who had recently won his 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open, partnered with Kirk Popert, a G4D Tour (golf for the disabled) star, to defeat F1 driver Carlos Sainz and Italian G4D golfer Tommaso Perrino 3-1 in one of the three matches played across the course.
Initially, Djokovic walked out to the first tee with a tennis racket, but he quickly switched to his golf clubs to take on the challenge.
The world No.1 produced a shot of-the-day contender when he drove the green from an advanced tee at the par-four 16th.
“This is sporting greatness,” Djokovic jested as his ball stopped on the green.
“I was going to play safe, but the crowd made me do it. It was one of the best shots I’ve ever hit. I’ve never played golf in front of this many people, so considering my level, I think I’ve played quite well.”
Bale, on the other hand, partnered with team captain Colin Montgomerie in the seven-hole event.
The duo emerged victorious against Corey Pavin and former professional footballer Andriy Shevchenko, winning 2-1.
The other match featured content creator Garett Hilbert and surfer Leonardo Firoavanti, who drew 2-2 with Hollywood actress Kathryn Newton and former NFL star Victor Cruz.
The Ryder Cup celebrity all-star match was a great success, showcasing the talents of some of the world’s biggest sporting and entertainment stars.
Team Monty’s impressive performance was a testament to their skills, and they will undoubtedly be looking to carry this momentum into the upcoming Ryder Cup contest.
