Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted any claims of a political crisis in the state, emphasizing that his administration has been providing focused leadership and governance.
During a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara stated that his objective is to deliver good governance to the people of Rivers.
The governor discussed how the pressure from an unwarranted political crisis has actually reinforced his dedication to service, which is now positively affecting the lives of the citizens.
“There are no political issues as far as we are concerned. Many years ago, I watched a movie titled ‘Devil’s Advocate.’ I’m sure some of you have seen it as well,” he remarked.
“In the movie, one of the main characters, played by Al Pacino, said that pressure causes some to retreat or fail, while it drives others to focus on success. We have opted to remain focused amidst this pressure.
“That’s the reason we’re progressing. That’s why we’re positively impacting our people’s lives. Governance is about serving the people, not oneself.
“Governance is about addressing the essential needs of the people we lead, and by God’s grace, we are achieving this.”
Rivers State has been in turmoil due to a deteriorating relationship between Governor Fubara and his former mentor, the ex-governor Nyesom Wike.
Wike, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member, is currently serving as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister under President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the peak of the crisis last year, 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly left the PDP for the APC. These legislators, led by the Speaker and loyal to Wike, have accused Governor Fubara of withholding funds.
Furthermore, these lawmakers have experienced tensions with the governor and sought to impeach him amidst the state’s political turmoil, until President Bola Tinubu stepped in and convened a meeting in Abuja, resulting in an eight-point resolution.
