Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, has made a bold statement about Nigeria’s presidency in 2027. According to him, the presidency will not return to the north, regardless of whether President Bola Tinubu secures a second term or not.
Okupe emphasized that Nigeria’s political system is based on rotation between the north and the south. He explained that this rotation involves the north holding power for eight years, followed by the south for another eight years. Okupe stressed that this is the established pattern, and it won’t change in 2027.
He also expressed disappointment that past leaders, including Ibrahim Babangida, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, failed to cultivate a new generation of leaders. Okupe believes this failure has hindered Nigeria’s progress.
