Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) has assured the public that the ongoing fuel scarcity and queues will be resolved by Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, Chief Communications Officer of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, stated that the company currently has over 1.5 billion litres of products available, which can sustain for at least 30 days.
Soneye acknowledged a recent three-day distribution disruption due to logistical issues but assured that the situation had been resolved.
He noted that while the queues might persist for a short while, they would be cleared by today or tomorrow.
Similarly, Hammed Fashola, National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, expressed optimism that queues in Lagos and Ogun states would ease off this week, aligning with NNPCL’s commitment.
However, Fashola mentioned that the queues in Abuja might take longer to clear due to logistical challenges and distance from Lagos.
Meanwhile, on Monday, motorists and commuters expressed concern over the fuel scarcity, leading to a few commercial vehicles operating and fare hikes in Lagos.
Long queues were observed at filling stations across various parts of the city, including Ikorodu Road, Maryland, Gbagada, Ejigbo, and Ijede Road in Ikorodu, among others.
