Dust Haze Forecast for Northern and Central Regions
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced that a dust haze will cover Nigeria from Thursday to Saturday. The forecast, detailed on Wednesday from Abuja, suggests that the northern part of the country will see a slight dust haze with good visibility on Thursday. Similarly, the North Central states are also expected to experience a mild haze with clear visibility during this period.
Moderate Haze in the South
In contrast, the southern regions are set to encounter a moderate dust haze, reducing visibility to between 2km and 5km. Additionally, early morning fog or mist is anticipated along the coast, potentially affecting visibility further.
Continued Haze into Friday and Saturday
By Friday, the northern region will see a continuation of moderate dust haze conditions, maintaining the visibility range of 2km to 5km. The North Central states will follow suit with similar haze conditions. The coastal areas will again be under the influence of morning fog or mist, with the possibility of slight haze mixed with patches of cloud in the afternoons and evenings.
Health and Safety Precautions Suggested
NiMet has issued warnings about the health implications of the dust haze, particularly for individuals with respiratory conditions. “Dust particles are currently in suspension, and precautionary measures are recommended,” the agency stated. They advised those with asthma or other breathing issues to take extra care. The public is also urged to adhere to safety advisories from relevant authorities.
Guidance for Aviation and Public
To ensure safety and operational efficiency, NiMet has recommended that airline operators consult their airport-specific weather forecasts. “Residents are advised to stay updated with NiMet’s weather information for better preparedness,” the agency concluded.
