Chukwuebuka Enekwachi, a Nigerian-American track and field athlete, has made Africa proud by setting a new African record of 21.63 metres in the shot put at an Olympic qualifier in the Czech Republic.
The news was shared by Solomon Ogba, the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), in a statement on Friday.
According to Mr Ogba, Enekwachi has just landed a big indoor Personal Best (PB) of 21.63m in the men’s shot put at the Hvezdy v. Nehvizdech in the Czech Republic.
This is a great feat as he broke the indoor African record of 21.47m that has stood since 2001, by Janus Roberts of South Africa.
He also put together his best series ever in the event, going over 21 metres on every attempt:

Enekwachi, born Jan. 28, 1993, is a specialist in throwing events and competes internationally for Nigeria.
He is the reigning African champion in the shot put and was the 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist.
Additionally, he is the reigning Nigerian National Sports Festival Champion and was the 2019 African Games Champion.
In addition to Enekwachi’s achievement, Ruth Usoro, another athlete, also gave a stunning performance in the jumps by leaping 6.87 metres at the same qualifier for the Paris 2024 Games.
These two athletes have made Nigeria proud and we can’t wait to see what they will do next.
