The French women’s top league has recently announced the nominations for the annual Goalkeeper of the Season award, with Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie being one of the strongest contenders. Currently playing for Paris FC, the 23-year-old has emerged as a highly talented goalkeeper in Europe since she arrived in 2020. This season, she has achieved a remarkable feat of seven penalty saves, the highest among all goalkeepers in both men’s and women’s top leagues. The seven saves include two in league play and five during Paris FC’s impressive run in the Women’s Champions League.
The competition for the Goalkeeper of the Season award is tough, with Nnadozie facing stiff competition from Lyon’s Christiane Ender and PSG’s Katarzyna Kierdrzynek. Meanwhile, other award categories have also been announced, with Nnadozie’s teammate Louna Ribadeira being nominated for Revelation of the Season, and her coach, Sandrine Soubeyrand, being up for Coach of the Season.
Currently, Lyon is leading the league standings with 58 points, followed by PSG with 49 points and Paris FC with 41 points. Despite this, Paris FC has a strong chance of returning to the Champions League next season, as they are currently leading Reims by 10 points.
The award winners will be announced on April 29th, and it will be interesting to see which of these talented players and coaches will emerge victorious.
