In a bid to prevent hoarding and smuggling of foods aggravating high cost of food in Nigeria, the Sokoto State Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has foiled a food smuggling attempt in Sokoto.
According to the spokesperson, NCS, Sokoto Command, Abubakar Chafe on Saturday, the command intercepted 15 trucks containing food along the Gwadabawa-Illela road in the state.
He disclosed that the arrest was prompted by the amount of food the trucks were transporting in this period of prevailing inflation of food items in the country.
He further stated that the operation was a combined effort team of the NCS Sokoto Command, Officers of the Federal Operation Unit and the Intelligent Unit of the Service.
He also added that the trucks were presently in the commands custody while investigations are ongoing to ascertain owners and destinations of the food items.
