The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest and detention of investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo in connection with illegal oil bunkering activities in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, stating that Soyombo was apprehended during a raid on an illegal bunkering site.

The statement clarified the circumstances of the arrest:
“As part of its intensified operations against illegal oil bunkering, the 6 Division Nigerian Army recorded significant successes. Recent intelligence uncovered the activities of a notorious gang involved in pipeline vandalism and illegal oil connections in the region.”
According to the Army, Soyombo was found at the site during a carefully coordinated operation aimed at dismantling the gang’s operations. Preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine his level of involvement.
