Nigeria’s boxing team concluded their participation in the Africa Boxing Qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics on a high note, as they clinched three gold medals on the event’s final day.
The competition, which took place in Dakar, Senegal, saw the Nigerian team comprised of nine boxers (three males and six females) and two coaches, who had been selected after a two-week intensive training camp in Lagos.

The final day of the qualifying rounds was a tense affair, with three Nigerian boxers making it to the final rounds.
Cynthia Ogunsemilore, a female boxer in the 60kg category, had already secured a spot at the 2024 Olympics but still went on to defeat Khelif Hadjila from Algeria in the Women’s 60kg category to win a gold medal.
Nigeria’s Omole Dolapo emerged victorious in another exciting fight by defeating Leta Fikremariyam Yadesa from Ethiopia in the Men’s 57kg category to clinch another gold medal.
Olaore Olaoitan Adams then made it three gold medals for Nigeria by outboxing Houmri Mohamed from Algeria in the Men’s 92kg category.
The Secretary of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (IBF) praised the team for their excellent performance, which helped the country redeem itself after not being represented in boxing at the 2020 Olympics in Japan.
The Nigerian boxers’ success was the result of their hard work, determination, and skill, and they have made their country proud.
