The Nigeria Police Force has once again condemned the exploitation of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s, name and office by some officers involved in deceitful practices. This stance was strongly reiterated in a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi.

Adejobi highlighted his concern regarding the unethical behavior of certain officers, which he believes is damaging the force’s reputation and eroding the trust of the public. The statement pointed out the particularly egregious use of the Inspector-General’s name to carry out fraudulent activities. This method is often used to intimidate victims into silence by making them believe that their harassment has the endorsement of the highest police official.

Adejobi emphasized the criminal nature of such misconduct, including the act of publicly cursing someone, which he clarified is a criminal offense. He urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior by police officers to senior officials or the Complaint Response Units in their regions.
Public Advisory
He advised the public to be wary of anyone claiming to have connections with the IG or any high-ranking officer for personal gain or to exert undue influence. This advice follows an earlier October warning from the force about not misusing the IGP’s name or office for intimidation.
