Relief for Transportation During Festive Season
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced its intention to auction 15,325 liters of confiscated petrol at a subsidized rate of ₦400 per liter. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden of transportation costs during the holiday season.
Details of the Seizure
ACG Hussein Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, revealed this during a press conference at the Customs Training College in Ikeja on December 21, 2024. He pointed out that the recent operations in the Lagos-Ogun area led to the capture of 613 jerrycans of petrol, valued at ₦27,565,000.
Ongoing Efforts Against Smuggling
Ejibunu emphasized that Operation Whirlwind, active since May 27, 2024, has been effective in countering smuggling activities. He reiterated the Comptroller-General of Customs’ (CGC) commitment to continue these efforts until smuggling is eradicated.
Legal and Public Access
All legal prerequisites for the auction, including a court condemnation order, have been secured through the office of the Legal Adviser. The petrol will be available to the public at ₦10,000 for every 25 liters, providing a direct benefit to citizens during the festive period.
