Nigerians living abroad under the banner of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Americas have recently issued a statement to the Federal Government of Nigeria, urging it to take swift action in prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens. The statement was signed by the Board of Trustees (BOT) and Board of Directors (BOD) of NIDO Americas, representing the United States, Brazil, and Canada.
The organisation’s statement highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, stressing that they could not be overlooked, and emphasized the need for the government to address the root causes of insecurity in the country. NIDO Americas reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria in overcoming its security challenges by urging all stakeholders, both domestic and international, to collaborate in fostering a safer environment for all Nigerians.
The organization specifically commended the Nigerian security agencies for their swift action in rescuing no fewer than 130 students who were abducted by gunmen on March 7th in Kaduna. The Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of NIDO Americas expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Nigerian government for their successful efforts in rescuing all the kidnapped children.
However, NIDO Americas also stressed the need for broader attention to be given to the issue of insecurity in Nigeria. While the organization acknowledged the successful recovery efforts, it emphasized the need to recognize that the problem of insecurity in Nigeria extends beyond isolated incidents and requires broader attention.
Furthermore, NIDO Americas pointed out that the insecurity around farmlands had worsened food security, threatened the livelihoods of farmers, and exacerbated the already dire economic situation in the country. The organization urged the Federal government to intensify its efforts to foster a safer environment for all Nigerians and to address the underlying issues contributing to the country’s security challenges.
