The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal examination, revealing that 60.55% of the candidates secured credit passes in both English Language and Mathematics. Out of 1,376,436 candidates who sat for the exam, 828,284 achieved this milestone.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday. He also reported that 83.9% of the candidates earned five credits and above, regardless of whether they passed English and Mathematics.
In comparison to the 2023 exam, there was a decrease in examination malpractice cases. This year, 8,407 candidates were involved in malpractice, down from 12,030 last year. Additionally, 40 schools in 17 states were implicated in mass cheating, and they will face sanctions. Twenty-one exam supervisors were also blacklisted for misconduct, including extortion and drunkenness.
Wushishi emphasized that the results were released 55 days after the last written paper, following the examination conducted from June 19 to July 26, 2024, and marking concluded on September 8.
The examination saw 1,367,736 candidates take part, including 702,112 males and 665,624 females.
