Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested several individuals, including a corps member and a village head, during multiple raids across Nigeria, recovering a total of 10.1kg of illicit drugs valued at over N2.1 billion.
According to a statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the monarch of the Akarabata community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Ige Babatunde, was arrested on July 5, 2024, with fresh cannabis plants weighing 5kg. In Kano, a youth corps member, Yusuf Abdulrahman, was apprehended at a corpers lodge with 1.250kg of a potent strain of cannabis known as Loud.
The NDLEA also conducted a significant raid on a high-profile cocaine syndicate in Lagos, led by a couple, Agbakoba John Mmadu and Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe, along with their associate, Okoye Ifeoma Maryjane. This operation resulted in the seizure of 10.1kg of cocaine.
Additionally, in Benue State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a consignment of 350 grams of cocaine concealed in an MP3 speaker, leading to the arrest of 25-year-old Odeh Anthony.

In Adamawa State, a Chadian national, Yves Ahmat Gali, was arrested with 5.200kg of Loud hidden in a loudspeaker.
In Ondo State, NDLEA officers destroyed 42,500kg of cannabis on 17 hectares of farmland and recovered 73.5kg of the substance for prosecution.
In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives arrested Sanusi Mamman, 28, and Usaini Ibrahim, 20, in possession of 1,132 bottles of codeine syrup, 13,540 pills of tramadol, 50,000 pills of diazepam, and 59 pills of rophynol.
These arrests and seizures underscore NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.
