The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed that 20 chairmanship aspirants in Kano State tested positive for drug use. This disclosure was made during a routine drug test conducted for aspirants vying for various local government chairmanship positions in the state.
The NDLEA stated that the drug tests were part of the screening process to ensure that candidates are fit for public office and to promote a drug-free society. The screening involved testing for substances such as cannabis, cocaine, and other narcotics.
The results have raised concerns about the prevalence of drug use among political aspirants and public office holders. The NDLEA emphasized that those who tested positive would be disqualified from contesting, as drug use violates the ethical standards expected of public office aspirants.

The agency called on political parties to conduct proper background checks on their candidates and ensure they promote individuals who are not only qualified but also morally upright. The NDLEA further reiterated its commitment to fighting drug abuse and trafficking and urged citizens to support its efforts in creating a drug-free society.
