The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated its directive for telecom operators to deactivate phone lines not linked to National Identification Numbers (NIN) by February 28, 2024.
Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, emphasized this during the NCC’s Special Day at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair on February 28.

Represented by Reuben Mouka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Maida highlighted the critical national security aspect of linking NINs to SIMs.
He affirmed the deadline and urged telecom companies to prioritize customer satisfaction and uphold service standards.
Additionally, the NCC has implemented measures, such as directing Mobile Network Operators to commence the use of approved Harmonised Short Codes to improve services for Nigerian telecom consumers since May 17, 2023.
