The Nigerian aviation watchdog, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), is taking a zero-tolerance stance against airlines that mislead passengers with deceptive departure times. In a strong message delivered by the Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Nigeria, Capt. Chris Najomo, the NCAA has put airlines on notice that this practice will not be tolerated.
Crackdown on Deceptive Departure Times: Airlines Face Regulatory Action
Capt. Najomo, speaking through his spokesman, NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, acknowledged the NCAA’s recent efforts to streamline licensing and make life easier for airlines. However, he made it clear that this regulatory goodwill comes with a condition: airlines must treat passengers with fairness and respect.
The NCAA has identified several airlines that have been displaying misleading departure times on counters, in advertisements, and on their websites. This is a clear violation of NCAA regulations. Capt. Najomo warned that the NCAA will be closely monitoring airlines, and those found to be flouting the rules will face severe regulatory consequences.
Passenger Rights, Safety, and Discipline: The NCAA’s Core Principles
The NCAA’s commitment to safety, discipline, and economic regulation is evident in its recent actions. This includes the suspension of ten Private Notice of Compliance (PNCF) holders for failing to comply with a recertification advisory issued earlier in April 2024.

He pointed to the Authority’s impressive score on the Presidential Enabling Business Council (PEBEC) ranking. The NCAA recently surpassed its sister agency with a score of 98.5 per cent, building on the already commendable score of 71.04 achieved during the 2024 ICAO Security Audit.
Capt. Najomo concluded by assuring stakeholders that the NCAA remains dedicated to continuous improvement. The Authority’s focus on safety, security, and passenger well-being will ensure a more positive experience for everyone involved in Nigerian air travel.
