The Nigeria Customs Service Men’s Basketball Club of Abuja has set a high target to win in the top four stages of the Savannah Conference basketball championship.
Samuel Onikeku, the Sports Secretary General of the club, conveyed his unwavering confidence in the team’s ability to perform well in the final four of the Nigeria Basketball League.
He expressed his utmost satisfaction with the club’s performance at the recently concluded Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) Premier Basketball Men’s Final Eight Championships Savannah Conference second phase finals held in Abuja.
CRUX NEWS reports that Nigerian Customs emerged victorious in the Savannah Conference second phase finals championship game after defeating Gboko City Chiefs 83-75.
Onikeku was satisfied with the impressive performance displayed by the players, considering the circumstances that they were unable to prepare adequately for the competition.
He commended the players for winning every match with a margin of 10 points difference, which is a clear indication of their incredible teamwork and exceptional skills.
The management of the team is unwaveringly committed to the continuous improvement of the team’s performance by adding good players to compete favourably in the future.
In the 1990s, they had a good male and female basketball team, and some of the players are currently head coaches in male, female, and national teams.
Onikeku is looking forward to building teams that will dominate basketball for the next 6-8 years.
This shows a deep commitment to the growth of the sport in Nigeria, and the club’s desire to set the pace for other teams to follow.
The Nigeria Customs Service Basketball Club, Gboko City Chiefs, Rivers Hoopers, and Hoops and Reads Basketball Club of Lagos would compete in the final four scheduled for Nov. 19 to Nov. 26 in a yet-to-be-decided venue.
The winner of the 2023 NBBF Premier Basketball League will represent Nigeria at the 2023 Basketball African League (BAL) scheduled for the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
With unbeaten performances in the second phase of the ongoing NBBF event, Onikeku is confident that his team will do well in the final four and pick the tickets to the 2023 BAL.
