The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate allegations that some of its officers accepted a ₦15 million bribe from popular social media personality Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
This urgent request comes after claims surfaced that a convict had paid to serve a prison sentence in a private residence rather than a correctional facility. It is further alleged that the bribe was in exchange for a government pardon.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), President of the NBA, emphasized the need for a comprehensive, independent investigation. He called for the involvement of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Office of the National Security Adviser in the probe to ensure transparency.
Osigwe underscored the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the legal profession and warned against premature conclusions, particularly regarding renowned human rights advocate Femi Falana (SAN). The NBA stated that Falana’s reputation for integrity should not be tarnished without concrete evidence, urging a fair and thorough inquiry.
The NBA’s plea comes as part of its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability within Nigeria’s justice system.
