The first-ever Abuja National Skating Competition was a resounding success, culminating in a momentous close over the weekend, with General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), officiating the event’s closure.
General Musa was effusive in his praise of the competition, describing it as “agog with thrilling skating skills and showcase of talents.”
The competition’s primary objective was to promote peace and unity among Nigerian children and youths while simultaneously boosting the sport’s popularity.
The competition featured the Half Marathon Race, Slalom display, and Aggressive Ramp Jump, with General Musa emphasizing that it aimed to discourage crimes in society.
He commended the Skating Federation for their remarkable progress, describing the event as a “giant leap and indicative milestone.”
General Musa expressed appreciation for the collective effort that contributed to the success of the event, held at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
The competition showcased a 42.5 Skating Marathon Race, drawing attention to the incredible talent within the skating community.
The CDS announced that the winner of this prestigious race would have the honour of representing Nigeria at the World Championship in Greece scheduled for the following year.
He specifically praised the visionary leadership of the Skating President, recognizing the initiation of a workable and pragmatic vision for children and youths in the skating community.
The inaugural Abuja National Skating Competition not only provided a platform for athletes to exhibit their skills but also served as a beacon of unity and peace.
