Nasarawa United Football Club’s Management has expressed its desire to bounce back from its relegation to the Nigerian National League (NNL) and return to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
At a news conference in Lafia on Monday, Othman Ahmed, Chairman of the Club, declared that the club’s primary objective is to return to the NPFL after being relegated from the abridged NPFL 2022/223 season to the second tier of Nigeria’s football league.
The club commenced its 2023/2024 NNL season with a 1-0 victory over Zamfara United at the Lafia Township Stadium on Saturday.
Ahmed praised the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, for his support, and also expressed gratitude to the club’s supporters for their unwavering support despite the club’s current circumstances.
He assured them that the club’s goal is to return to the NPFL at the end of the 2023/2024 NNL season, and he is confident that the target will be achieved.
Ahmed thanked Sule for his support so far and expressed his confidence that the governor can do more with time.
He also thanked the Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe, for being highly supportive of the club.

Ahmed stated that Nasarawa United has set a target of immediate return to the NPFL at the end of the 2023/2024 NNL season, and the club is battle-ready to achieve that goal.
He noted that the club broke a jinx by winning their opening match of the season, something they had not accomplished in the previous six opening matches.
Usman Adams, the Head Coach of Nasarawa United, echoed Ahmed’s sentiments and assured the state government and supporters that the team will do whatever it takes to return the club to the apex league.
Adams attributed the team’s poor performance in their match against Zamfara United on Saturday to jitters and anxiety but promised to make the necessary adjustments to achieve their goal at the end of the season.
Adams expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to achieve their target of returning to the Premier League.
He credited the state government’s massive support, including the new pitch and equipment, for motivating the players and urged everyone to believe that they are already in the Premier League.
