In Nasarawa State, Usman Salisu Galadima, also known as ‘Basira’, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Football Association.
The announcement of his victory was made by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Barr. Haruna Favour Iliyasu, at the Keffi Local Government Area Secretariat after the election held on Saturday.
The election was attended by two representatives from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan and Ali Abubakar Mohammed, who oversaw the process.
Usman Galadima won the election by polling twelve votes out of a possible eighteen, beating his closest rival, Haliru Ibrahim, popularly known as ‘Zee’, who received four votes.
Two votes were considered invalid due to additional and surplus entries by the voters on the ballot sheets.
The Vice Chairmanship position was won by Ibrahim Adamu Shigafarta, who garnered sixteen votes against Aliyu Zanwa, securing his victory according to the interpretation of the law, which states that the latter candidate hails from the same Zone as the new Chairman.
Nuhu Abdulhamid, Ismaila Agah, and Bashir Ibrahim were elected unopposed from Akwanga Zone by virtue of the interpretation of the law.
Nasir Na’Ali and Abubakar Gambo from Lafia Zone, as well as Segun Akeusola and Matthew Dodo from Keffi Zone, emerged victorious with 11, 13, 16, and 14 votes, respectively.
The new Board Members were administered the Oath of Office by Barr. Abdullahi Bello of the Court of Appeal, Abuja.
In his post-inauguration speech, the Chairman expressed his gratitude to those behind his victory and pledged to extend an olive hand to those who lost for the growth and development of football in the State.

The Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, congratulated the new Chairman and his Board, as well as all the contestants for daring to try.
He urged them to work together for the development of football in the State and carry other key stakeholders along.
The Nigeria Football Federation’s President, Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan, who presented the Certificate of Return to the new Chairman, congratulated him and his Board, commending the Normalisation Committee Members for delivering a transparent, free, and successful electoral process.
He pledged to work together with the Nasarawa State Football Association to develop grassroots football and create opportunities for young talents to discover their full potential.
In conclusion, the former Normalisation Committee Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Bello, thanked the leadership of the NFF for finding him and other members of the Committee worthy to coordinate the process of electing new members into the Board of the Nasarawa State Football Association.
He also appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State Government for providing the right atmosphere for the Committee to carry out its duties successfully.
The tenure of the Usman Salisu Galadima-led Nasarawa State Football Association’s Board is four years.
