On Tuesday, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State distributed 3,100 bags of 50kg rice and N5,000 cash as palliative to vulnerable persons in three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The beneficiaries of the palliative were the aged and people living with disabilities in Awe, Keana, and Obi LGAs.
This gesture was aimed at cushioning the effects of the fuel subsidy removal and was supported by President Bola Tinubu.
The exercise was part of the ongoing distribution of palliative in the state, which began on August 22.
The governor had earlier performed a similar exercise in Doma, Kokona, Keffi, Karu, Nasarawa, Toto, Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon, and Wamba LGAs.
Governor Sule explained that 100 beneficiaries were drawn from each electoral ward across all the LGAs of the state.
Awe has 11 electoral wards, Keana has 10, and Obi has 10 electoral wards respectively.
Each beneficiary was given one bag of 50kg of rice and N5,000, with Awe having 1,100 beneficiaries, Keana 1,000, and Obi 1,000 respectively.

Furthermore, the governor directed the immediate payment of N10,000 and N5,000 respectively to all civil servants at both state and local government areas.
He added that the palliatives for civil servants and pensioners would last for the next six months.
The commissioner of Special Duties, Humanitarian Affairs, and Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), Margret Elayo, who oversaw the event, said that the gesture was to improve the welfare of the vulnerable in the society.
She added that the government had put measures in place to ensure that the food items and money got to the beneficiaries.
The chairman of Keana, Abdul Sanusi-Giza, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the president and the governor for the gesture.
He explained that the support would go a long way to alleviate the suffering that the masses were going through since the removal of the subsidy.
The Osana of Keana and Chairman Traditional Council of Keana LGA, Alhaji Abdullahi Omegba, also expressed gratitude to the federal and state governments for the gesture.
Governor Sule supervised the distribution of the items and cash himself to ensure that it got to the deserving beneficiaries.
The government plans to return for more distribution of palliative in the future.
