The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched an investigation into the circulation of obscene photos of a minor believed to be around five years old.
The agency was alerted to the situation by social media users who discovered the disturbing images on Instagram accounts @officialsarah_ig and @black_sherriff_justice.
One user, Miss Ezeani, brought the issue to NAPTIP’s attention, expressing her shock and concern for the child’s safety.
She described the photos as depicting the minor in adult settings, wearing thongs, and posing suggestively, indicating potential sexual exploitation.
NAPTIP responded promptly, acknowledging the severity of the situation and classifying the images as Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), a criminal offence.
The agency is working to collaborate with Meta to remove the offending accounts and track down the individuals responsible.
In a statement, NAPTIP urged the public to refrain from sharing unsanitized photos, emphasizing that doing so would only contribute to the distribution of CSAM and exacerbate the problem.
The agency is actively working to address the situation and ensure the child’s safety.
