The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning about a falsified batch of Giga-S Injection discovered in Aba, Abia State. This counterfeit batch was purchased from a well-known store in Araria Market.
Giga-S Injection, containing Ceftriaxone and Sulbactam (1.5g IM/IV), is used to treat severe infections like septicemia, pneumonia, and meningitis.
NAFDAC has expressed concerns that this falsified product, though identified in Abia State, might have spread to other parts of the country through informal markets. The agency emphasizes the importance of detecting and removing this counterfeit product from circulation to prevent harm to patients.
NAFDAC urges importers, distributors, retailers, and healthcare providers to exercise caution and vigilance in the supply chain to avoid the importation, distribution, sale, and administration of falsified or substandard medicinal products.
All medical products should be obtained from authorized/licensed suppliers, and their authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked.

Members of the public in possession of the falsified Giga-S Injection should discontinue its sale or use and submit any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

NAFDAC has stated that this notice will be uploaded to the WHO Global Surveillance and Monitoring System (GSMS) for wider awareness.
