“My Mum And My Uncle Wanted Me To Marry [As It Is Done In The Villages] A 14-Year-Old Girl” – Mane

Senegalese footballer and former Liverpool star, Sadio Mane, has opened up about a shocking revelation that his mother and uncle once tried to pressure him into marrying a 14-year-old girl from their village.

In a recent interview with Dailymail, Mane disclosed that although he had wanted to get married, he had refused the suggestion from his family members.

Mane, Al Nassr Star, who is expected to lead Senegal’s attack at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, went on to explain that marrying someone is never an easy decision, especially when parents are involved.

“I would have liked to get married, but you know that with parents also, that’s another thing, they are complicated. I remember one day, my mum and my uncle wanted me to marry [as it is done in the villages] a 14-year-old girl. [Calling to someone off camera] Idy, it was 14, right? I believe that she will be 15 this year but I had refused,” Mane said during the interview.

Despite the pressure from his family, Mane remained steadfast in his decision and did not succumb to their wishes.

However, he remains hopeful that he will find his soul mate and get married soon.

Mane refused to go along with their wishes, stating that he wanted to wait until he found his soulmate before getting married.

It is worth noting that Mane had previously tied the knot with 19-year-old Aisha Tamba in a ceremony held in the capital city of Dakar.

He also clarified that he had no intention of marrying a teenager, regardless of cultural practices.

This revelation by Mane sheds light on the issue of child marriage, which is still a prevalent problem in some parts of Senegal and other African countries.
