Gunman Dies After Police Confrontation
In a tragic event in southern Montenegro, a gunman responsible for killing at least 10 individuals, including two children, ended his rampage by taking his own life. According to police chief Lazar Scepanovic, after being surrounded by police near Cetinje, the suspect shot himself in the head upon being ordered to surrender his weapon. Despite attempts to rush him to medical care, he died from his injuries during transport.

The shooting spree started in a village restaurant near Cetinje, where the assailant, whose identity was not disclosed, killed the restaurant owner, the owner’s two children, and several other family members. Interior Minister Danilo Saranovic described the incident as “a consequence of disturbed interpersonal relations” but provided no further details on the motive.
Aftermath and Response
The attack wasn’t linked to organized crime, as clarified by the police, ruling out any gang-related conflict. The search for the shooter continued into the night until his location was discovered. Four victims sustained severe injuries and were admitted to a hospital in Podgorica, with their conditions described as critical by Prime Minister Milojko Spajic.
National Mourning Declared
In response to the devastating event, the government announced three days of national mourning, acknowledging the profound impact of the violence on the community. Mass shootings are not common in Montenegro, making this incident particularly shocking for the small Balkan nation.
