The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has recently revealed that the second phase of the Three Million Technical Talent initiative will be commencing soon.
This initiative is set to position Nigeria as a net exporter of talent in the digital economy. Dr Tijani made this announcement virtually in Abuja on Friday.
The second phase of the initiative will train a total of 270,000 individuals as fellows, a 10% increase from the previous phase which trained 30,000 fellows.
The initiative has already garnered an impressive 1.8 million registrations from aspiring trainees in the 774 local governments across Nigeria.
Dr Tijani explained that the 270,000 new fellows would have the opportunity to go through their courses within the next 12 to 18 months.
The goal of the initiative is to provide cutting-edge content that allows fellows to learn at their own pace while linking them up to physical learning locations close to their places of residence.
The Minister emphasized that the initiative’s overarching goal is to empower Nigerian citizens with the relevant skill set required to participate in the global digital economy.
As the government continues to invest in this initiative, it will strengthen the country’s ability to defend its GDP and grow the economy.
The Ministry is also partnering with other organizations to provide support for fellows who may choose to start technology-focused businesses after their training.
Dr Tijani explained that the government is keen on supporting entrepreneurs who wish to start their technology start-ups as a means of creating solutions to the country’s challenges.
The Three Million Technical Talent initiative was launched in November 2023 and is aimed at empowering Nigerians with critical digital skills.
It is the largest talent accelerator in the world and is targeted at driving effective and efficient use of technology to transform government services and create a workforce that can deepen the application of technology across critical sectors.
