The Nigerian military on Tuesday, killed the leader of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, Ba’a Shuwa, in Borno.
Many ISWAP fighters were also reported killed during the operation.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, reported that the bombing that led to the death of Shuwa took place at Kwatan Dilla, Abadam LGA of Borno state.
The publication said images show that many terrorists were killed during the strikes.
The terrorists were said to have sheltered in their highly fortified hideouts in order to evade air strikes within the Timbuktu triangle.
Shuwa was appointed ISWAP leader in 2021 after the death of Abubakar Shekau.
He was commanding terrorists in Chiralia, Markas Kauwa, Abirma, Buk, Abulam, Dusula, Abbagajiri, Gorgore and many other camps within the Timbuktu and Alagarno axis in the south of Borno.
Shuwa and his team were mostly responsible for improvised explosive device attacks that occurred around Damaturu-Maiduguri, Askira, Buratai, Buni Yadi, Buni Gari, Gaidam and other parts of Borno and Yobe states.
