1. Shootout In Warri, Delta
On this day in 2004, a shoot out between unidentified gunmen and soldiers killed 5 people including one soldier in Warri, Delta state Nigeria.
2. Egyptian Revolution Began
On this day in 1919, a nationwide revolution against the British occupation of Egypt and Sudan. The revolution led to the United Kingdom’s subsequent recognition of Egyptian independence in 1922 as the Kingdom of Egypt, and the implementation of a new Egyptian constitution in 1923, they however did not relinquish their hold on Sudan and Suez Canal.
3. Embakasi Airport Opened In Nairobi, Kenya
On this day in 1958, Embakasi Airport, now Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was opened by the last colonial governor of Kenya, Sir Evelyn Baring.The airport is the seventh busiest airport in passenger traffic in Nigeria.
4. TWA Flight 553 Crash
On this day in 1967, Trans World Airlines (TWA) Flight 553, while descending toward Dayton from the airport, collided in midair with a Beechcraft Baron, a small airplane, near Urbana, Ohio killing all 25 aboard the TWA flight and the sole occupant of the Beechcraft.
5. Cavalese Cable Car Crash
On this day in 1976, the steel supporting the cable broke as a fully loaded cable car was descending from Mt. Cermis, near the Italian ski resort of Cavalese in the Dolomites. The crash, regarded as the deadliest cable car crash in history killed 42 people.
